GEMS Summer Shindig The Kings Head, Smeeton 21ST June 202
A brilliant lineup of music….C to the G - A four piece vocal harmony band, with a twist of jazz and bags of sass with Whatever it Takes - A four piece band playing a mix of songs from the 60’s to the present day, which will all make for a brilliant afternoon of music with a plant sale, tombloa BBQ and even ply your cards right raising a fantastic amount of £2040
Farmers’ Wives Do a Runner
Ten local farmers’ wives, along with one gentleman, Andy Kemp, took on the Market Harborough Half Marathon to raise money for the GEMS Charity.
The group of eleven dedicated runners completed the challenge in support of a close friend who is currently undergoing cancer treatment herself. Their efforts were aimed at helping GEMS Charity, which raises funds for the chemotherapy suite at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, helping to make the patients and their supporters more comfortable during treatment
At the Kings Head Summer Shindig on Sunday, the runners proudly presented GEMS Charity with a cheque for an incredible £17,000—far exceeding their original fundraising target.
Peter Anderson, one of the charity’s trustees, said: “The amount raised is absolutely unbelievable. We are incredibly proud to be associated with every one of these runners. Their support and generosity will make a real difference, and the money raised will go towards one of the three projects we are currently working on.”
The achievement is a testament to the determination, community spirit, and kindness of everyone involved.

Another great day at the GEMS clutter sale held at the Railway arms Kibworth on the 15th & 16th of May. Many thanks to Sam for hosting the event which raised a fantastic £1500.47. GEMS would like to thank all the people who helped in anyway
GEMS Golf day 2025
The golfers at our golf day helped us raise a fantastic amount of £3,900, supported by 18 teams of male and female golfers of all abilities
Smeeton Westerby open gardens
Once again, the residents of Smeeton opened their gardens for GEMS, the sun came out and so did the crowds we had a fantastic day, all the visitors thought the gardens were beautiful. Live music at the Kings Head kept them entertained while they rested their legs and wet their whistles.
Later in the day Odd fellows band performed brass on the grass on the village allotments and the combined events raised a massive £7000 incredible.
The Clutter Sale at The Railway which was held on Friday 9th and Saturday10th May was a fantastic success. The road closure didn’t stop the good people of Kibworth and surrounding areas coming down to grab themselves a bargain, everyone found something they liked, from purchasing a painting of Market Harborough church where a couple got married 25 years ago to children being delighted with becoming new owners of large cuddly toys.
Thank you to Sam at The Railway for allowing us to hold the event in the carpark and making sure we had a lovely brand new marquee to display our goodies and a very big thank you to everybody who donated and purchased the clutter, it certainly was recycling at it’s best! raising GEMS Charity a whopping £1,856.97 – an absolutely fantastic amount, Kibworth and surrounding areas you have done us proud once again.
Karen is one of our fundraisers and she has raised a fantastic amount of money for us over the years. Each year Karen and her mum organise weekly car boot sales and raffles when they can.

Mindfulness bags organised by one of our friends and his wife, Vimal & Chandi. The bags were given out at the chemotherapy suite by one of our volunteers and were gratefully received by the patients
NFU Market Harborough Coffee and Cake Morning fund raising event with a visit from the community police officers
The Wormleighton family completed the Snowdon challenge for GEMS. Paul said the following
“We completed our Snowdon challenge, it was really challenging but we really enjoyed it!
We have raised £4,242
We hope this money makes a difference”

An amazing 3 days with lots of fun, great stalls, music, tasty food also a great band and entertainment in the evenings at The Railway Arms
Fundraising can be a great way to get active, get involved with the community or do something crazy but whatever you do it is a great way to help the patients being cared for at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) chemotherapy unit.
